18 Suur-Karja Street building was designed by the architect Rudolf von Knüpffer and was built in 1886. During the years of 1917-1918 the Workers' House of Tallinn (Tallinna Tööliste Maja) was using the building as their facilities. In the 1920s it was rebuilt from a 3-storey building into a higher one. It was architect Artur Perna’s project and the reconstruction was completed in 1923. The six-storey building served then as the AS Loan Bank building.
